I don't see any option to hide the updates which you don't want to install.
In windows 7, one can simply right click and choose hide the update, but no such thing in windows 8.1.
am i missing something???

The option to hide updates is there for me and I use it to hide MS crapware, so it works as in prior versions. It has the little administrator shield on it, so you have to be an administrator to access it. If your PC is a company machine they may have set a policy that removes the option.

For example i wanna hide the bing bar update. But i get nothing by right clicking on it like i used to get in windows 7. There is only a detail link next to it that is clickable. and no option there as well.
anybody care to share a shot where they have option to hide????

As an update to this I had to hide the update for MS Silverlight install, three times, before it finally got the message.
15 (!!) times, and it's not blocked.
Silverlight and Adobe FLASH aren't typical updates, nor additional software.
Typically, you install fixed package of an additional component, and IF you installed it - you will get updates in the future.
If you don't install - you don't get updates.
Silverlight and Flash have different delivery model, they update full-installer. Recent Silverlight version is called KB-4023307, you don't need to install old initial package and then updates. Latest SL/Flash is installed directly at any time.
But in this delivery model you cannot hide Silverlight, it will appear as soon as new SL patch arrive
