    @Spectre
    Did you follow the steps as suggested in post #8. Run DISM first, then SFC.

    Just for the record, I always run the sfc command first so the information can be logged. That way, DISM has a reference for cleanup when using an external database (ie, Windows Update) as a reference. Now, it may work in reverse as well but I have never done it in that order.

    Hello,

    Rebooting after the dism command is good.

    I'll run sfc & dism.
    Then I'll reboot.
    I have noticed that after using dism & rebooting I get "Configuring Windows" message.

    Then, I run sfc again.

    Brink & others recommend running sfc several times in a row sometimes.

    Hope this helps.

    There are lot of cases that sfc will keep failing unless dism is run first. And in this case, he ran sfc 5 times and still failed.

    I have seen just the opposite. In fact, I have seen SFC report errors that were corrected by DISM. Listen, since I am usually wrong and you are not, I will just bow to your superior expertise in all areas and just say that you are right and I am wrong again. BTW, this will also be my last post in this forum because I've just about had it; period!

    So, after joining on September 5th, and after 45 days of active participation, and after accumulating 443 rep points, I am now going to leave this forum to all those who are never wrong. Good bye and good luck! BTW, I will also turn on access to my profile so you can all see how stupid I have been with my frequently wrong suggestions.

    I never once said you were wrong and I am not going to apologize for making a constructive comment. It is ashamed that you feel offended by it.

    BTW, I've just found out that I am the 2nd one on your offending list today. The first one was from this thread:

    This time, I tried to reenter the DISM commands, with the spaces after the command. This time though, it freezes at the 'Image Version'

    I am sorry to be late getting back to you.
    With sfc & dism commands failed. I suspect that your Hard Disk is corrupted so I suggest to run the chkdsk command first before retrying sfc & dism.

    1. Win+X -> Command Prompt (Admin)
    2. Type: chkdsk /r /f C:
    3. System will reboot and chkdsk will run

    Warning: This process will take a long time (hours) depending on how badly it is corrupted. Please be patient !!!

    Good luck

    Need help with Microsoft 8.1 upgrade on HP 2000-2C11.
    Back ground: wife's PC ( 8.0 OS) is used mainly for developing embroidery sewing projects which are then transferred to her sewingmachine. The SW is marketed byHusqvarna/Viking, which includes a Hasp (dongle) to protect unauthorized use. The software for the HASPs are developed as best as I can determine by SafeNet Inc. of Belcamp, MD. When 8.1 update is selected from the"Store" it D/L to almost it's conclusion, stops and asks for certain SafeNET APPS to be deleted in order to complete upgrade. Where are they??? They must be "hidden files" to normally prevent unauthorized use of the software. During the update the hasp is removed to prevent corruption. Viking offered a 6.1 software driver update but that did not help withthe MS upgrade to 8.1. problem, HELP. Thanks

    Hey, thank you all for the replies. I entered the chkdsk command into the command prompt and rebooted my pc. The progress jumped from 2% to 27%, and seemed to freeze at 27%. I'll leave my pc on overnight and post results. thanks
