Hi! Been havin' problems during windows 8 updates. After updating, the screen just flashes on and off. I forced shut down it 2 times so I can go to the safe mode options. I restore my settings using system restore and its good again. But I have been experiencing this 2 times now. Can you tell me how to go around this problem without using system restore? And what do I get from those updates anyway? I have my auto-update off for the time being. BTW - I just downloaded my Windows 8 from the internet and had it activated. Hoping for a solution! :thumb::cool::thumb:

Hi and welcome

Updates can benefit you in many ways. They make your system more secure, more stable, improve compatibility with applications and games and sometimes they give you new features. Drivers updates are also offered through Windows Update.

If you want to know what an update does, you can search for its number on the internet. My latest update is for example Security Update for Internet Explorer Flash Player for Windows 8.1 for x64-based Systems (KB2880289)
Microsoft Security Advisory: Update for vulnerabilities in Adobe Flash Player in Internet Explorer 10: September 10, 2013

Try to narrow it down by installing a subset of updates or if possible one update at a time. Then you should be able to tell us which particular update is causing problems.

Thanks! I'll try to see what updates i should only download. I know updates are good for your PC but why does my update cause my laptop to flash on and off? I just don't get that, and that happened twice just about 2 months ago.
