Is it true that when MS is done compiling Windows 8 and are ready to start selling we have to purchase as well?

Or are we being excluded from the latest updates so that we will always have an limited version of Windows 8?

We receive updates all the time. Will we get all of the updates to Windows 8 so that the developer preview becomes f.ex Windows 8 Ultimate?

yes.

In my own prior experience, pre-release versions are always limited. In some cases, you have to actually uninstall one pre-release version to install the next pre-release version.

The DP version, the Beta, and any RC (release candidate) will most likely NOT be upgradeable to the final RTM (Release to Manufacturing) version that goes on sale.

Hi there
I would be VERY surprised if there weren't at least one public beta and possibly an RC trial available before the final goes on sale.

If MS follow the W7 experience you'll probably get around 6 - 9 months on the last public "testing" platform before the final product is released.

I'd find it almost unimaginable if MS just left current testers of the W8 preview without any further versions when it expires in March (and that's only a few weeks off now).

Cheers

It will be about a year before Windows 8 will be available for purchase, with a beta,or two (three? RC?) in between....The beta is being finalized http://www.eightforums.com/windows-8-news/3543-testers-get-beta-windows-8-a.htm

This actually depends on your membership with MSDN, as a member I will get the final retail version at no cost.
I haven't paid for an Operating System since Windows 98 SE. My membership covers that. (Note: Even MSDN members
have to be active in the alpha/beta testing of any/all MS software to qualify for a free copy). Microsoft JUST doesn't give
it to them.

Agreed with your opinion because that was the testing version & the finalized version needs to be installed as fresh to get the full advantage of it.

Then we go back to Windows 7 and forget the nightmare. But maybe they have a positive surprise in stock.

Hi all
I suppose a better answer for the OP is that we get to start previewing Windows 9 / Windows 10 / Windows Galactica or whatever the next one is called. !!!!

Cheers
