Cannot update windows, error code 733F always

This has just popped up in the last couple of days.
I tried the DISM.exe fix, this died with error 87 (unknown option).

    Any suggestions gratefully accepted!

Win+R - rstrui - OK and roll back.

    If it doesn't help:

    1. Make sure you copy-paste the command:
    Code:
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
See DISM - Fixing Component Store Corruption in Windows 8

    2. SFC /SCANNOW Command - Run in Windows 8 (option two)

    3. Run WU Troubleshooter

If the problem is still not solved, copy-paste the troubleshooter results and attach
    Code:
    C:\Windows\Windowsupdate.log
    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
    C:\Windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log

Cannot update Win8, error code 733f always

My DISM bad... I was looking at syntax with a proportional text font, didn't see the spaces between the "/options"!
Ran with correct syntax, got error 14098, component store has been corrupted.
    DISM log is attached.

Please perform step 2 and provide all requested logs. If it's too much work, just do repair install.

Can't get into the CBS log, permissions issue or the file is open to Win8.
I have attached the WindowsUpdate log.
The link to the repair appears to be for Win7, is this also the procedure for Win8?

There shouldn't be an issue with CBS, if you open the folder in File Explorer and copy the file to another folder. But yes, you have to be an administrator.

Alternatively, running the command below in the elevated command prompt will copy the file to the Desktop
    Code:
    copy %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log "%userprofile%\desktop"

BTW, I REALLY appreciate your help with this issue!

CBS log: I have attached a text version. I have edited this, looks like there have been attempts to do the update every few hours with consistent failures. Only the latest attempt is included.

re: repair... I did the Win7 ==> Win8 upgrade using the special pricing offer early this year, saved an ISO file and have used PowerISO to extract into executables from a HDD. Looks like if you go back and do the install (Win8 already present) then there would be an option to do a "repair" instead of a complete reinstall. Is this correct? If so, then I will try that approach, didn't want to blindly reinstall and affect stuff I have installed since the original.

    Thanks again, g.

Don't see the CBS.txt attachment, will try to upload it again. I have done this a few times, the attachment management doesn't seem to ack my request.

    Hi,

Thanks for the log. You're in a tough spot, because DISM can't fix the component store corruption. However, there's an option to specify an offline repair source, which is not covered in the DISM tutorial I referred to. The idea is to mount ISO, then mount install.wim from the sources folder, thus creating a source that represents a clean Windows installation.

Now, since I don't have the upgrade ISOs, I'm not sure of its content. I'm afraid you have an encrypted install.esd instead of install.wim, and you can't mount .esd to my knowledge. Let's check:
    1. Right-click the ISO -> Mount
    2. Open the sources folder.
    3. In the table view, sort by size (largest on top) and show file extensions.
    4. Post the screenshot.

As for your question on repair install, you should mount ISO, copy it locally, run setup.exe and follow the tutorial. Step 11 shows you the upgrade option clearly.

    Yes, install.esd is present.
I will do a complete re-install and post feedback.

    Thanks again for your help!
