Solved Can Windows 8 be shutdown without applying updates?

I had an occasion today in which I wanted to shutdown windows 8 without waiting to apply updates first.

I found a couple of threads on how to do this in Windows 7, none of which seemed to work in Windows 8. I've also checked the command line shutdown.exe options but didn't see anything specific to do this. Perhaps, I'm not looking hard enough!

Anyway, does anyone know of a way to force a shutdown of windows 8 without applying updates first? (It would be preferable to do this without delving into the registry.)

Hello Aga,

I find that turning off Windows Update automatic updating is the best method to avoid this. However, you will have to remember to manually check for and install Windows Updates afterwards.

Thanks for the suggestion and Links. I may give it a go. I have to weigh-up remembering to check for updates against the number of times I actually want to do this. (I already have enough recurring MS Outlook reminders!)

MS only offers new updates on the 2nd Tues of each Month, unless there is such a critical update that can't wait.

Glad we could help Aga. Luckily, once a month is not so bad if you wanted to leave automatic updates turned on.
