New system updates reverted.

Brand new Lenovo z580 with I5 3 series 6gb ram etc Win8/64 HP plus Avast AV.

Initial windows updates download and install, then on rebooting it gets to approx 10% install, and then reverts updates and reboots again.

I can see from update history rhat 13 updates have succeeded of which 7 are for Office and 2 for Intel.

I've tried the repair tool, which said it fixed a couple of things, but frankly has made no difference. Unfortunately I get no diagnostics on why all these other updates are reverted.

Any advice? Thenks.

Install only important updates first, once theyre successful then do the optional updates..

As long as the harddrive is active, the system is busy, you may just have to wait it out..

unplug all unnecessary USB devices then try again

Thank you. I did as you said, but no difference.

It goes to 13%, says it wants to retry, goes back to 7%, then goes to 16%, says retrying and goes to 7% again. Next time it reaches 16% it says rebooting. Then restarts updates @ 7% goes to 16%, retries again, then says updates failed, reverting and rebooting.

I'm beginning to hate win 8 - I wish we could charge M$ for all the time wasting and hassle. After-all this is a bog stardard w8 laptop.

Any other suggestions please?

disconnect all usb devices, except what you need such as KB or mouse

go to the start menu and type CMD

a shortcut will appear, right click the shortcut

on the bottom select the option run as administrator

click yes for confirmation

now type chkdsk /f

it may ask to reboot, select yes

now wait.... it may take a bit.. when done try your updates again..

Going from bad to worse!!

I thought your idea of doing a chkdsk a good idea, until that is I tried it - what a piece of *********; why change something that works - reminds me of the defrag mess in Vista - you now at booting get just one line giving a percentage, got to 27% in seconds then stuck there for 3 hours.

A new problem which I perhaps should report elsewhere. I forced a reboot after 3 hours, now however chkdsk won't run on booting at all. It just says 1 second to cancel - doesn't matter whether I press a key to cancel or not, it just doesn't run.

#Any ideas or should I refer this as a new item?

Was the harddrive still accessing when you forced reboot? as long as the HDD is flashing, the system is busy.

If your machine is suffering an imminent hardware failure such as SATA controller or HDD, it could take longer to repair

If you have access to another PC use that PC to run chkdsk on your drive..

But first copy important data from your USERS folder. This is a serious problem that chkdsk was struggling to repair..

Im sorry to see youn in such distress, ive been there with chkdsk stuck at 27%, and I also forced rebooted, then I read to leave it alone and let it finish, so I did, and hours later.. all good..
