    Update problem

After a Windows 8 update, my computer will no longer boot. After the Dell screen the computer screen just remains black, and it does so for hours.
I made a boot USB drive using Windows7-USB-DVD-tool from another computer.
The USB boot drive worked, but I cannot use the command prompt to open in safe mode. bcdedit /set {default} safeboot minimal results in the error message "The boot configuration data store could not be opened. The requested system device cannot be found."
Automatic repair does not solve the problem.
System Restore results in an error message "To use System Restore, you must specify which Windows installation to restore. Restart this computer, select an operating system, and then select System Restore.
Refresh your PC does not work either.
Hitting F12 during startup does not actually bring up a menu of boot options, just a black screen with f12 boot options written on the bottom right of the screen.
The program WindowsBootGenius did not work. I was unable to use it to recover data to an external hard drive.

I am more or less out of options. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your harddisk or partition is not being seen..

Can you see your harddrive in the bios?

Before you make any repairs to your harddisk you need to put that harddisk into another computer and recover the files you want to keep..

Make an Ultimate Boot CD and run parted magic to browse your harddisk, you can use this program to copy files over to another drive, otherrwise you will need to use a program like recuva that takes more time and effort than the drag and drop or copy options that UBCD offers.

After a few weeks of not having a functioning operating system, I hired someone to recover data from the undamaged harddrive. I then solved the problem by installing Windows 7 pro. Just wanted to put this here in case someone else has the same problem. I didn't think it was worth solving in the traditional sense.

    Windows 8 & Windows 7 Dual Boot

Im glad youve got it working, but am saddened that Windows 8 deliberate refusal to repair the boot manager cause you to pay for the peace of mind to protect your data..

As Ive mentioned before in other posts WINDOWS 8 has NO interest in repairing the boot manager unless its the ONLY operating system..

Windows 7 however will fix them all... And yes, you can use the Windows 7 repair disk to fix both..

For everyones peace of mind, if you cannot repair your boot with the Windows 8 repair option, use Windows 7's..

    Thanks for the update JJ.....

    Windows 8 Evolution 32bits

    Hi, i installed Windows evolution 8 32bits and i'm having problems with HD Graphic drives; when i select screen resolution options, i only see Generic Non-pnp Monitor and 1024x768Generic (and i can not change);

[i do not know what is HD series cards],

if i do the Windows update it recognizes the problem, download several updates, including HD Graphic drives, and after it restarts, the display keeps flashing and the system does not open.

I'm on it all day, i had to reinstall Win, all this for the system to recognize my projector and also open 'Multiple Monitors' option and others; furthermore, i can not update the Win 8 cause it stops! I saw there are many people with this problem:

    Microsoft Basic Display Adapter

Display keeps flashing - Microsoft CommunityMonitor not listed in Device manager/Windows 8 automatically updates driver

Monitor not listed in Device manager/Windows 8 automatically updates driver

Now, i downloaded the HD Graphic drives and for Win 7, and it worked fine, i just can not update the Win 8 then it stops; now, even with Win 7's drive installed and no longer showing the 'HD Graphics drive' between updates, if i install the remaining updates it also crashes; i do not quite know what to test because if it fails Win no longer opens.

Is it the 32bit thing, that Win8 had no hopes with old machines?
