Windows Update last night, keyboard, mouse and RDP issues

My computer must have received a new Windows 8 Update last night. This morning it asked me to reboot. After boot the keyboard and mouse do not work once Windows has booted. Also RDP results in a black screen and getting disconnected after a short while.

The keyboard and mouse work fine in BIOS, however as soon as Windows posts they disconnect. Prior to reboot, the keyboard and mouse were working fine. What doesn't make sense is that issue persists after both a system restore and a system image restore.

System - Dell XPS 8300 (3 years old). i5 - 2.8Ghz, 16 GB RAM, Windows 8 Pro (Downloaded via my tech net subscription)

What I've tried -

1. Different USB ports
2. System Restore
3. System Image Restore
4. Safe Mode - Still no keyboard, mouse, etc
5. Different keyboard / mouse
6. Remote Desktop (black screen) - Yes system was configured for RDP, logged in daily to it.

I don't get it. Keyboard and mouse work fine in BIOS and booting off of Windows DVD. This issues resulted after an update was applied. However doing a system image restore to over a week ago should have circumvented the update being applied.

At a loss. I work in IT, though haven't done desktop support in years. So maybe my skills are rusty, however I have never seen this issue before.

I have same problem on 4 computers. This AM put an HP desktop back on line after a number of weeks off line (disconnected from all inputs).

Worked great (Windows 8.0) until I received notice updates were waiting. On completion and reboot, keyboard did does not respond after Windows takes control keyboard is inoperative. Items residing on desktop will not open after double click. Help,,,using a borrowed notebook w/Win 7 installed.
