    Wouldn't it be better to just upgrade the Windows Developer Preview to the Beta version as a Windows Update instead of a fresh install?

    actually, that's what I do but thought I would give the more conventional approach.

    Also have a shortcut on my desktop since I work mainly from the good ol' desktop.

    Hello Avalon,

    You could use the tutorial below to create a Windows Update shortcut on your desktop.

    Windows Update - Create Shortcut to Pin to Taskbar - Windows 7 Forums

    Afterwards, you could use the tutorial below to pin the Windows Update shortcut to the Apps screen first (step 2C), then pin it to the Metro Start screen.
