Well, I purchased a new laptop for work and have been working on getting things setup. Since I like things my own way, I formatted what Dell provided and started over from scratch.

Was surprised how many updates where are already for Windows 8. From a clean install, it was 30 updates in the first wave with nearly 500MB to download. Once complete, I checked for updates again and 5 more updates totaling another 425MB were needed.

Need to almost build a slipstreamed installer already. Bring on SP1.

Tbh, many of the updates I got when I installed W8 were merely drivers or language packs (I'm not English or American, you know :p). But yeah, I was kinda surprised aswell - I was using W8 Release Preview for quite some time and I figured that Microsoft would implement most of their updates in the official W8 as a part of the system.

I have to 8 rigs and one gets defender update daily the other only every other day if that often. Not sure why the inconsistency or differences.

Both windows 8 pro. The one that keeps getting defender updates daily won't install one update kb 278094 and I'd guess they are trying to push it or something, maybe it is needed for something but it won't install, been trying to get it to for couple months I'd guess. Tried everything I found on this forum and others and nothing works. Figure someday MS will figure it out.

Oh, you can easily fix that yourself. I had that problem myself, but I managed to install it by doing those things:

1. Open up command prompt in admin mode
2. Type DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
3. Wait for it to do it's job
4. Type DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
5. Type Exit and run Windows Update again

Had run across that one but could not find how to get the admin prompt, stupid speed reading course at college :) read right over the instructions a couple three times. Anyway did it this morning and no joy, goes about a third of the way and hangs/fails.
