Hi, I purchased a Windows 8 Pro edition on Jan 30th 2013. I have got a valid product key. When i checked the control panel it first showed that "Your license to use windows expires on 2/8/2013". I thought of re-entering my product key and i clicked "Activate windows using another key" and i re entered my product key but now it is showing that my license to use windows expires on 3/2/2013 i.e. tomorrow. Will my OS expire tomorrow. How can i solve it. Kindly help. I have attached an image from control panel showing the license info. Capture.PNG

The only Win 8 with expiration dates are developers or enterprise 90 day trial. Windows 8 versions bought and paid for don't have license expiration dates.

Windows 8 Pro price jumped to US$199.95 end of January 2013. Win 8 ordered from Microsoft is that price. Some stores in the US also jumped the price and some apparently still have the inventory at the old price.

On the Internet there are still some prices at $69.95 and some at $199.95. I did notice that there was one advertised for $19, a teacher student version.

Windows 8 download can only come from Microsoft. They have some variations in the OS from country to country outside the USA. Any Win 8 ordered from a vendors comes in a box with discs.

Hi there
can you explain "Activate Windows using another product key".

The only way I know of doing this is to enter in administrator mode SLUI 3. Then you get a Change product key screen from which you can enter the key you should have got from Ms and then activate.

Check your license status on elevated command prompt:
slmgr.vbs -dlv

Is it RETAIL, VOLUME_MAK, or VOLUME_KMSCLIENT?
And what edition does it shows (Professional, Core(CoreSingleLanguage,CoreMultiLanguage), Enterprise, or EnterpriseEvaluation)?

Hi there
I suspect that the OP had got an evaluation copy somewhere -- although I'm not sure if the version he says he has -- W8 PRO--- is available in that mode. (Could be in Asia -- I just don't know) .

Enterprise version though is a 90 day evaluation (unless you have MSDN / TechNet subscription).

Something's not right about the whole issue -- I don't think I've seen a SINGLE post about a temporary license for W8 Pro on the forums -- this would certainly have come up before now if it was a serious problem.

The only other possibility I can think of is that it's a VL version obtained from work - these need to be activated every so often by the KMS / other license servers and in a work place this process is done seamlessly in the background with no user intervention necessary.

If not too big a pain, then you could try the activation techniques found here.
