    BITS Scheduling a download window?

I've just gotten a Windows 8 computer. I have metered satellite internet access and would like to limit downloads of Windows updates to my wee hours of the morning "Bonus" download interval.

Hello mtcstle, and welcome to Eight Forums.

By default, Windows Updates are part of "Automatic Maintenance". You could use the tutorial below to set the time you want "Automatic Maintenance" to wake up the computer and run.

Automatic Maintenance - Change Maintenance Settings in Windows 8

    Hope this helps,

Thanks for the reply Shawn but I'm not sure it's apropos my issue. I think this schedules when updates are executed. I need to schedule when they are downloaded in order to conserve my daily bandwidth limit. On my Satellite link, I'm allowed only 15 G per month but another 15 G is available between 02:00 and 05:00 ET. So, I like to schedule automated downloads, when I can, to occur during the "Bonus" period.

Part of "Automatic Maintenance" is to check for and install Windows Updates, so setting the time for say 2 AM would help serve that purpose for you.

Of course, you do also have to have Windows Updates set to install automatically as well. They are by default.

In addition, double check in Task Scheduler (taskschd.msc) to change the "trigger" time of the "Scheduled Start" task for Windows Update like below.

Task Scheduler Library -> Microsoft -> Windows -> WindowsUpdate

Thanks, I'll give "taskschd.msc" a try, when I get home. I presume I want to bracket my desired window between the "start" and "expire" values?

Nar, you could just change the time at #5 in the screenshot to what you want.
