    Run AS and windows updates

    background:
domain user with NO admin permissions,
windows updates done locally (not via wsus) using accoun with local admin priviledges.

I have a requirement to run windows updates using the run as command. i have found out you can run as other applications, but not those in control panel. i have had no problems in the past with win7 or xp clients in doing it his way, but cannot find a way around it for windows 8. when i run windows updates as the user it appears to work, but just sits at 0 percent.
For some reason they seem to have lessened not strengthened the ability of run as in windows 8???? dont want to rant about it yet but...getting

    Any advice???

    Hi there

I'm sure there is some way to manage this -- we use a lot of work laptops and us pions are not admin users on these -- somewhere from a central server at fairly predictable periods (ours is usually Tuesday lunchtimes) a file gets executed telling us that our PC's are being updated so please save your work as these updates might ask for a re-boot.

Some server admin types should be able to answer these -- as I'm sure a similar command could be scheduled to run locally in admin mode without the user having admin privileges.

I can't give you more info here as this is out of "my domain" but there are a load of server and network gurus on these forums who I'm sure could help.

    Cheers

Can you not use the 'all users can install updates' setting? (in GP or even the normal option from an Admin user WU?)

    Thanks NoelDP!
dont know why i didnt think of allowing all users setting in group policy.
should have mentioned that the domain is run by a local admin who is technically NOT gifted. he also doesnt want to log into each machine to do windows updates, so the second option just wouldnt have worked.

You can set the option once-and-for-all locally from the admin account- so it's one-visit thing.

As in install all updates automatically? What about those that quite often appear requiring user interaction and local admin rights - with eula's.
Either way gp should achieve what I wanted.
