Solved Upgrade activation and backup

I just upgraded to win 8, 32Bit

I want to know if I can activate win again if my system or HDD crashed?

How can I backup on external discs? Don't have an external HDD.

Hello mastsethi, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Yes, you will be able to activate your Windows 8 again if your HDD dies, and you reinstall it on a new HDD. The main thing is that it cannot be activated on more than one computer at the same time.

I would highly recommend that you get another HDD to use to save a system image to. It will be much more reliable than as many DVDs it would take.

Is this a computer that came with Windows 8 preinstalled? If so, then please post back with what brand and model it is. We'll see if we could find instructions for you on how to create a set of factory recovery discs or recovery USB flash drive to use to restore Windows 8 back to factory conditions.

While you CAN do a backup to DVDs, from what I read on the Macrium forum, if it takes more than three DVDs, you end up swapping disks nearly constantly. Maybe other backup programs work better with DVDs, don't know. But, second the recommendation Brink made to get an external drive.
