Problem found while upgrading with media pack to WIN 8 Pro

    This is for information only.

I took the offer for the free upgrade to the media centre

It would not work. I could not key the key...!

I got in touch with the MS Support (Who were very good)
the first tech ended up giving me a product key for the pack then tried to do the upgrade.
it failed. it started to 'RESTARTING' after 2.5 hours I gave up switched off and went to bed.

The second tech was excellent and went through the logs and after a while identified a software licensing module as the cause of the problem he disabled it and re did the upgrade. it took a while and I do think it should have more indications of what it is doing, but w waited and eventually it finished and it is all working.

The problem was NALPERION not something I have knowingly installed the web says it sometimes comes with Adobe pdf type apps. It caused me a lot of pain and I wish I had been advised about it.

Hope this saves others some time.

And I must say the technical people at MS (India?) were very very good.

I had a good experience with them recently myself.

I had installed Windows 8 Pro from a clean install using an upgrade license key. Using several methods to activate Windows 8, it simply would not activate. I contacted technical support who verified the key had not been activated and he walked me through activating it.

    I was very happy
