update issues

I have just tried to install critical updates on my mum's new laptop which is a HP g6-2244sa. It got to 13% and then froze on the purple screen. Was unable to do anything or even shut down as no screen options at all. Tried cntrl alt delete for task manager but that didnt work. Even power button on keyboard did not work. Eventually shut down by holding power button down but when I restarted it we were still configuring updates and got to 13& and froze again. Managed to use system restore to earlier date eventually but am worried about trying installing these windows updates again. Help please. Thank you

Sorry don't have a helpful answer but do have more information. I have the same problem, update hangs the machine ( HP g7 ) also at 13%. I found out if you just let it run it will try three times and then give up trying and then tell you it's reverting. Then things go back to normal, sadly with out the up date though.
