Microsoft reveals Windows 8 upgrade pricing for the UK

Microsoft has confirmed the cost of upgrading a PC to Windows 8 - and that people who have bought a Windows 7 machine recently will get a discount.

Microsoft has confirmed the price most UK users will need to pay to upgrade to Windows 8 24.99.

The cost of the UK upgrade, which allows users to download a copy of Windows 8 Pro, is pegged at an almost identical level to the US, where an upgrade will set consumers back $39.99.

I was expecting a straight dollar to pound, i.e. 39.99

    Interesting MS have done that.

I suppose they already annnounced the us $39.99 - so it would look like they were panicking if they dropped it.

What they can do is try and keep the price as low as possible elsewhere.

    It's already been posted.

They may have done it for less given the very poor reception - but since they had already announced $39.99 for US - they can't go back on that.

What they can do is try to keep it as low as possible elsewhere - without appearing to contradict the US price.

UK people will know what I mean.

This is for devices bought within a certain time-frame close to Win8's release, yes? How much is a bog-standard Win8 SKU upgrade disk?

No - that's a different offer. (and cheaper still!)

Are there both upgrade and non-upgrade versions? It seems all the pricing information for Windows 8 ($40) and Windows 8 Pro ($70) has been for upgrade versions but perhaps I have it wrong and one version works either way. If there is a more expensive non-upgrade version, what is the price?
