What's missing in Windows 8 apps

I must admit that some of the apps do feel a little underwhelming, I REALLY wanted to just use Mail/Calendar/Contacts as my daily point of information... but right now they don't do enough, that's not to say they wont by Nov.
Since it seems there are updates to those core apps almost daily at the moment

It has to /at least/ match the funtionality of the current "live" desktop mail app on windows 7 though. And even that is pretty thin, but it does at least handle multiple accounts rather well, drag and drop to storage folders, usable mail rules, detailed header inspection etc...

More options and customization and how about interacting with the desktop side? Notifications etc. Right now they act like they don't know the other exist, metro and desktop.
