Windows 8 RTM signed off with (9200.16384.win8_rtm.120725-1247 ) build

Windows 8 seems to be "this close" to becoming a reality in its final form, at least for PC OEM hardware makers. A website that has provided accurate information about Windows 8 build numbers in the past, Winunleaked.info, has made an update to its list, claiming that Microsoft has "signed off" on the final build.

The site's forums lists 9200.16384.win8_rtm.120725-1247 as the "signed off" build for Windows 8 RTM (Release to Manufacturing). If true, this would be in line with previous reports that have Microsoft putting in 9200 as the build number for the commercial version of Windows 8.

Other reports from unnamed sources claim that Microsoft could provide the final Windows 8 RTM build via download for its OEM partners as early as Wednesday, August 1st. It's also possible that the build could get leaked out into the Internet before that happens.

Once again, we want to note that Microsoft has not commented on any of these Windows 8 RTM "sign off" reports. Offically, the only thing Microsoft has said that Windows 8 RTM is scheduled to launch in the first week of August. It will be available for consumers to buy, via updates or in new PCs, on October 26th.

That 16384 is an interesting number to be in there... not sure what that signifies (it is exactly 4000 in hex) and the 120725-1247 is probably the last full biuild done on July 25 2012.

As I understand it "16384" is a "mini" version number of some sort.

For Windows 7 the RTM was first thought to be 6.1.7600.16384.win7_rtm.090710-1945
But because of a bug it ended up with 6.1.7600.16385.win7_rtm.090713-1255

Today marks an exciting and important milestone in our Windows 8 project. Our Windows team announced today the completion of Windows 8 Release To Manufacturing (RTM). Starting today we release Windows 8 RTM to our OEM and manufacturing partners as they work towards delivery of exciting new PC models that will be available this fall starting October 26th at Windows 8 General Availability (GA). Today also marks the beginning of our internal, MSIT-driven deployment of Windows 8 RTM across the company.

We have been encouraged by the breadth of Windows 8 participation and feedback we have received since deploying Windows 8 Release Preview in May – both internally and externally. The Consumer Preview and Release Preview of Windows 8 have been the most widely and deeply tested releases of any product we have developed and delivered. Internally we have deployed over 35,000 seats of Windows 8 Release Preview thus far, and seen broad engagement in .... and through all of our telemetry paths that have given us valuable feedback on Windows 8. This data and feedback have been invaluable in helping us complete Windows 8 RTM - thank you to all who have been a part of this.

We also want to take this opportunity to thank all of our partner teams across Microsoft product groups whose work has been important in developing Windows 8. In addition, our MSIT and CSS teams have also been tireless partners whose perspectives, input and work with us have helped us deliver the best release of Windows ever.

Windows 8 RTM is the final milestone in our development cycle before we bring Windows 8 to over a billion people worldwide at GA. It is also an important milestone for our partners and business customers.
· For OEM partners, RTM means they can go through final testing, certification, and prepare images for new PCs that will ship with Windows 8.
· IT professionals who are testing Windows 8 for their organization can get the final version of Windows 8 through their TechNet subscriptions.
· Developers will also soon be able to download the final version of Windows 8 through MSDN subscriptions as they continue to build compelling new apps for the Windows Store, or test compatibility with current Windows 7 apps.

To ensure that you have the best experience at work with Windows 8, it’s important that everyone at Microsoft install the MSIT image on your work machines in our MSIT environment (and not the public release). The MSIT image includes the necessary applications and settings needed to keep you instantly productive at work, including Office 2013 Customer Preview. Our MSIT team will send you an email over the next few days with installation guidelines as our internal deployments begin to roll out building by building. At that time, we encourage you to install Windows 8 (the MSIT image) yourself. As many of you have noted with the last Windows 8 milestone (Windows 8 Release Preview), installing Windows 8 is fast and easy.
In the meantime, you can visit the ITWeb Site for internal support, installation, application compatibility, internal apps, and more.
After you’ve installed Windows 8, please take time to learn about it and get involved at our internal site ... where you can ask questions, find answers, and get support from experts.
We also encourage you to share what you like about Windows 8 with customers, partners, families and friends.
Here are some great resources to help you learn more about the Windows 8 RTM and prepare for business conversations:
· Get the latest information about Windows 8 RTM on B8 blog
· Review the news and press materials: Microsoft News Center
· Get updates and information unique for Windows developers: Windows Dev Center
· Download the MSIT image of the Windows 8 RTM: Windows 8 RTM MSIT Image
· Learn about the product and get information about Windows 8 field readiness: Windows8Ready

This is an exciting milestone for everyone at Microsoft and an important step in bringing Windows 8 to market for GA this fall.

On behalf of our Windows and MSIT teams, thank you in advance for being a part of Windows 8 RTM!

Windows 8 has reached the RTM milestone

Windows 8 has reached the RTM milestone

...Windows 8 has been released to manufacturing (RTM)! This means we’ve completed the product development and testing of the product and have started handing off the final code to our OEM partners.

People will be able get Windows 8 starting on October 26th either by upgrading for $39.99 or on a new PC or device. And if you buy an eligible Windows 7 PC today, you will be able to purchase an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for $14.99 (U.S.) through the Windows Upgrade Offer.
However, we have a number of programs that provides various audiences early access to the Windows 8 RTM code to help prepare for Windows 8 as it enters the marketplace this fall:
•August 15th: Developers will be able to download the final version of Windows 8 via your MSDN subscriptions.
•August 15th: IT professionals testing Windows 8 in organizations will be able to access the final version of Windows 8 through your TechNet subscriptions.
•August 16th: Customers with existing Microsoft Software Assurance for Windows will be able to download Windows 8 Enterprise edition through the Volume License Service Center (VLSC), allowing you to test, pilot and begin adopting Windows 8 Enterprise within your organization.
•August 16th: Microsoft Partner Network members will have access to Windows 8.
•August 20th: Microsoft Action Pack Providers (MAPS) receive access to Windows 8.
•September 1st: Volume License customers without Software Assurance will be able to purchase Windows 8 through Microsoft Volume License Resellers.

Please note: if a program you are in is not mentioned, please be patient as dates for Windows 8 RTM code availability for other programs will be communicated when the information becomes available.

By why is it build 9200?! That makes very little sense.

Per Pault Thurrott at Winsupersite:
My sources also tell me that Windows 8 was complete for about two weeks before Microsoft officially declared RTM and the final build was actually delivered internally and to key partners days ago. (The final build was compiled last Wednesday, on July 25.) Windows executives had spent much of the previous week debating internal matters such as what the final build number would be: Microsoft routinely and arbitrarily increments the build to meet some internal desire to be witty, and Windows 8 was no different. After moving through various 85xx build numbers late in development, Microsoft decided that the final build number would be—wait for it—8888. But showstopper bug necessitated incrementing the build again, to 9200.

Hi there
Aug 01 (22.30 CET) no sign of the RTM yet on TechNet.

Enc screenshot.

If you want XP versions they are still available but you have to enter Windows XP specifically into the search area otherwise it's not shown.

I suspect that Windows XP won't be available on TechNet for too much longer so if you need it download and get keys immediately otherwise it's GONE. (XP is still useful as a VM for running all sorts of legacy hardware BTW).

Cheers
jimbo

Windows 8 won't be released out to TechNet subscribers until a good two weeks.....

But balls! Can't they do like a 30 day trial of it already?!

I still don't get 9200 as the build number, that...no. Why didn't they go with 8800?
