    Per Pault Thurrott at Winsupersite:
My sources also tell me that Windows 8 was complete for about two weeks before Microsoft officially declared RTM and the final build was actually delivered internally and to key partners days ago. (The final build was compiled last Wednesday, on July 25.) Windows executives had spent much of the previous week debating internal matters such as what the final build number would be: Microsoft routinely and arbitrarily increments the build to meet some internal desire to be witty, and Windows 8 was no different. After moving through various 85xx build numbers late in development, Microsoft decided that the final build number would be—wait for it—8888. But showstopper bug necessitated incrementing the build again, to 9200.

    Hi there
Aug 01 (22.30 CET) no sign of the RTM yet on TechNet.

    Enc screenshot.

If you want XP versions they are still available but you have to enter Windows XP specifically into the search area otherwise it's not shown.

I suspect that Windows XP won't be available on TechNet for too much longer so if you need it download and get keys immediately otherwise it's GONE. (XP is still useful as a VM for running all sorts of legacy hardware BTW).

Windows 8 won't be released out to TechNet subscribers until a good two weeks.....

But balls! Can't they do like a 30 day trial of it already?!

I still don't get 9200 as the build number, Why didn't they go with 8800?

This might be interesting, the new activation method of Windows 8 revealed, with screenshots. Seems OEMs can pre-activate the software on the PC
