OEMs to receive Windows 8 RTM on August 1

Microsoft had earlier announced that the Windows 8 Release to Manufacturers (RTM) will be available in the first week of August. However, news has it that Mary Jo Foley revealed in a recent Windows Weekly Podcast that as per her sources from MSDN and TechNet services, the Windows 8 RTM will be made available for its OEM partners on August 1. Also, recently Win8China got their hands on leaked screenshots of the Final Build of Windows 8 RTM, which is said to be the build 9200.16384.WIN8_RTM.120725-1247. The site also got a glimpse of the Lock Screen of Windows 8 RTM.

That's not what she said. She said her sources said it would be available on TechNet and MSDN on Aug 1 around Noon. No mention of OEM other then business customers would get it the first week in Aug. Although she didn't mention OEM I would assume they would get it the same day and that's probably what this writer is saying. I love the way these hack writers copy some other blog (which he did) and they don't check their facts.

Jim

I guess we'll know on August 1 how accruate that is. I'm a bit wary of following a chain of links to one unofficial site after another.

I'm in no hurry anyway. If it shows up on TechNet on 8/1 I'll have another VM to install, and if not, well, maybe somebody got it all wrong. :D

Must admit it doesn't phase me either way to be honest. I'm not exactly hanging by my fingernails waiting. In fact, so much has been said about it, the actual release will be a bit of an anti-climax for me ... Ho hum!

I was thinking about putting Win8 RP on my netbook but now I'm going to hold off until RTM. I haven't had time to back up the netbook or create a bootable flash drive yet anyway, so now I have an excuse to procrastinate a little longer. :D
