    That makes sense.

    It is the only way to shift win8.

    It could have been a bit less - but they will have calculated it out.

    I posted a while back they might do it for $30 because that worked well for upgrade to win7.

    Three years later they probably feel another $9.99 will be ok.

    Yes- I thought they would have to do that.

    It was only for students for win7 at that sort of price.

    Win8 is so unpopular they have wisely decided to practically give it away to anyone.

    Makes perfect sense - at that price , people won't consider it a serious purchase - more of a whim.

    Looking at Microsoft's site for this deal in the UK (£14.99) there is a major clause:


    Key Dates

    You must purchase a qualifying Windows 7 PC between 2 June 2012 and 31 January 2013 to be eligible for this offer. The last day to register and order your Windows 8 upgrade is 28 February 2013.


    This rules out a lot of people! Me included!

    Near the bottom of the article in post #1 by z3r010 there is also mention of system builder versions allowing use for anybody building their own PC (no price given - yet)
