Why, when and how to migrate to Windows 8

Businesses should feel no pressure to adopt the new operating system, maybe ever

Windows 8 machines are coming out sometime this fall, but that doesn't mean businesses should shift to panic mode to upgrade their corporate desktops and laptops, experts say.
While the new operating system offers significant new features compared to previousMicrosoft upgrades, none is so compelling that it overrides practical business factors, they say.
The platform does have a lot to recommend it, says Nick Govelovich, a systems analyst on the IT enterprise computing team at PolyOne Corp., an international plastics manufacturer based in Avon Lake, Ohio. For example, Windows 8 boots quickly, takes less time to create a PC image than Windows 7 and its Metro touch-based user interface has interesting possibilities for devices used on factory floors or at human resources kiosks, he says.

Great thread, Shawn! Thank you!. I believe this is greatly needed for newbies to 8 such as myself. It'll save much time.

I'm still learning, although I passed the quizzes with flying colors. In no way could I have when I first installed and launched.

    Thanks again!

lol, if you had asked me "how do you shut down a windows 8 computer", the first day I installed it, I would have said "you can't".
Kidding aside, that was very helpful quiz.

When Windows 8 launches later this year you'll be able to upgrade to the pro version of Microsoft's newest desktop OS for just $40 for a limited time. The deal will apply to a broad base of current Windows users including those running Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7. Microsoft had a similar offer during the launch of Windows 7 but this one is cheaper than its predecessor. (Windows 7 upgrades ranged from $50-$100 at launch.)
