I'd update to the new update. I recommend that you always update your computers, whenever there is a update. That is so that you have less problems and if there is a bug it is up to microsoft to fix that

I'm sorry Microsoft if you are reading this but the update doesn't work for my upgrade from Windows 8.1 Home. Please see "Something Happened" What Next? - Windows 10 Forums

I think I know what I'm doing but I can't solve this one. The uninformative message "Something has happened" is of no real use and the error log is hard to decipher.

Many people seem to have the same problem. Over to you Microsoft to offer us a solution.

If you like, you could also manually upgrade to Windows 10 TH2 build 10586.

You would need to download an ISO first.

Afterwards, use step 6 in the tutorial below to upgrade with the ISO file.

I've already been trying to do what you suggest. All my efforts so far to update have used both a USB drive created by the Media Creation Tool and the ISO file created by the same tool. I haven't tried updating via Windows Update - would that be more successful?

I enclose the error log file of the unsuccessful installation. Some guidance on the errors and potential solutions would be appreciated by many who are having similar problems. Many people are having these errors so we need guidance and solutions from Microsoft on how to proceed.

It wouldn't hurt to try via Windows Update.

If needed, you could also clean install.

I've given up trying to upgrade to Windows 10 for the time being since last week's upgrade has been pulled - see the discussion at Ten Forums. What's going on?
