Looks mighty interesting. I'm not sure I'd be interested in an Intel tablet over an actual ultrabook, but for bummin' around the house this would be very interesting in the ARM variant. Heck, given it can do RemoteApp and connect into VDI farms, it's got a place there as well without the cost of additional software or the inability to print.

Believe me tablets can become very habit forming, they're instantly on and light, even on an iPad you can do most things, mainly on the consumption side though. So having a full blown PC on a tablet will be awesome. But I've still got a couple of PCs and laptop as well.

I've got a tablet and I don't find it very useful at all....it's certainly not habit forming. it's fine for a quick bit here and there, but whenever I want to spend some real time on the net, I set it down and grab my laptop. This device with a keyboard would easily be more beneficial. But from what I have heard it the ARM version will cost MORE than an iPAD and the Intel version will be more inline with a full price Ultrabook. I'd rather just have a full fledged laptop myself.

Well you can't have an iPad then, because it's pretty quick on the net, that's why I use it more and more because it's so quick on the net. I love tablets and I know I'm not the only one the market is growing at a huge rate of knots. But I'll always have a couple of PCs, I don't call myself BillWindows for nothing.

I read that the Surface with 8 Pro will come out 90 days after the WinRT version of it. What's going on? That means it will hit stores in Decemberish. Not the best time to market a tablet PC when the back-to-school shopping picks up, and when people see a Windows tablet, or the Microsoft Surface, they will realize that it can do what their laptop does and can do what an ipad does in a sleek package. WinRT won't cut it. It's too limiting.

But the tablet itself is interesting though. It's sleek, it's clean, it looks new and like nothing out there. It's harmonious.
Also, unlike other tablets, it makes use of Windows' built in digital ink input.

Looks like Microsoft is not quite as silly as a lot of people are making out, I've pretty well felt all along they had something special in mind for Windows 8 and that they hadn't lost the plot.
I think we'll see the same with the Windows phone, they have a purpose in mind and it will come together. The biggest problems are the Techsite tech bloggers, they love to rubbish MS even when they come out with something terrific.
I just want to see Tim Cooks face when these tablets and phones start selling in huge numbers, then we'll see how a fridge and toaster can come together.

I think WinRT will cut it at a cheaper price, aimed at casual users, it should have better battery times and be lighter. I think both will find their own niche. I just wish they'd hurry up.

"I would agree with the first post. But I do not think it will be so blessed with bugs as the first release of Vista, as, it seems to me, it is piggy backing Windows 7 to a huge extent.
Windows (codename 8) is , imho, beginning to shape up as the biggest disapointment ever for those who jump on the new release bandwagons. The so-called "hidden" features are, at this stage, nothing to swoon about. Fwiw, I see Windows 8, or whatever it may be called, not as a move on from the superb 7, but an intermediary release, mainly dedicated to tablet users. Tablets, in their many forms, are enroaching on Microsofts control of the computer market. Windows 8 is an attempt to counteract it. For normal, non tablet users, I do not see, (with the info so far available to us), windows 8 bringing anything outstanding into our lives. - Except, possibly, the touchscreen advancement?"

I can now reconfirm my opinion- I know it is late in the day, and pretty well confirmed, but I am still wondering if "Windows 8" will be the final name? With reference to the above, I would say the whole concept is financially motivated for the Tablet war. We stationary users are not being totally disregarded, but will most definitely be taking second place with this OS

It doesn't really matter what we think, the facts are that the world is moving towards mobile computing. Microsoft could have sat on the sidelines and waited to go down the gurgler, instead they decided to do something about it, only time will tell how well they've done.
I think what they've done is almost a stroke of genius, unfortunately I'm only one person, the rest of the world will decide their fate.

Technically, one of the main things with Windows 7 was superb touch input for touch PCs. Obviously, very few OEMs caught onto that until it was too late. ios and its apps came in on a giant itouch...

To do anything meaningfull on an iPad 3 with Retina you absolutely need the 32g model, anything less and youll have it filled up in a couple of weeks. Add a cover, charging stand and USB adapter and SD card adaptor, thats just under $800.
So Microsoft need to come in around that price or a little dearer, or better still a little cheaper, if they can do that they should sell really well.
