I wasn't asked for an e-mail address? I did it through Windows update though, not the taskbar notification. I never got the taskbar notification.

No, thats right, the email asks for your email address, the updates does not

The notification popup is tied to this update - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3035583. The upgrade compatibility check, download and installation are also managed by this update so check that you did not opt out of this back in March when it was issued as an 'optional' update and hid it from future notification. With an email address they will confirm your reservation

Got mine on 2 desktops this morning - automatically, I guess. Both pc's are "Good to Go"! Hope it keeps on being so simple and easy. I notice in the "Get to Know Window 10" website that one of the FAQ's mentions time required to install - looks like it will probably take about an hour.

Just ran Windows update on my laptop. After doing all the optional updates I got the icon in my notifications area. I clicked it and did the reservation. No prompt for an e-mail address. I log in with a live ID. Maybe its due to people using a local account on Windows 8?

Article in my local newspaper this morning. The Windows icon is located on bottom right of screen. If I reserve Windows 10 in advance, does that mean I will automatically get this version and not be able to cancel if I decide not to upgrade? I'm so afraid that "10" will have major problems after downloading which will cause me major anxiety......which I don't need at this stage in my life. I still have 9 "optional" updates (5/19/15) and a couple of important updates that I haven't installed. Read the info on all the updates and as usual don't understand exactly what these updates are for and if I really need them.

How do you turn off the notification icon in the taskbar? All I can seem to do is hide it a little bit but I want it to be gone. This box couldn't run Win 8.1 (Pentium 4 not enough processing power) so how's it going to run 10?
