Microsoft to integrate flash in IE10! Sort of...

We all thought Microsoft was on the way to completely abandon plug-ins like Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight. It was like Windows 8 on ARM doesn’t support Adobe Flash and Metro Internet Explorer 10 won’t be able to display Flash websites. But now, Microsoft has different plans. They are going to integrate Adobe Flash in Internet Explorer 10 that will ship with Windows 8. Microsoft has worked with Adobe to ensure the Flash code meets its own standards for reliability, compatibility, security, and performance....

If this is true, a plus has been added to ARM tablets: native Flash.

Windows 8 to Run Adobe Flash Only on Some Websites

The touch-centric Metro version of Internet Explorer 10 in Windows 8 is plug-in free, but the browser may still be able to run Adobe Flash video, according to an online report. Microsoft is reportedly taking the Google Chrome approach with IE10 and building Flash capability directly into the touch-friendly browser. But Flash won't be available for every site on the Web in Metro IE10. Instead, Microsoft will only extend the capability to select popular sites, according to Windows bloggers Paul Thurrott and Rafael Rivera.

Sounds like it. My guess is that Microsoft intends to force websites to move away from flash, while still allowing popular sites to work.

Still better than Apple's solution.

Gee Is MS being selective on which sites people visit? I suspect this is leaning more towards the Windows Phone and Tablet PC versions of IE 10 rather then the desktop edition. Here's what ZDNet had to say on this:

I thinks that's the key part. I have not tried the Metro IE10 but the Desktop IE10 works fine.

I'm still waiting to see when they will have the beta for IE 10 available for download to run on 7. On the RP once that is on VM first then the second OS test drive I will simply pin a shortcut to the taskbar if not already found there as well as a Quick Launch addon tool bar. It seems to run smouther then 9.

I don't get why they added flash to it when on youtube it can use html 5 and it wont work on all sites anyway. Which means that it isnt a plugin free browser which it was supposed to be.

Metro IE uses HTML5, win8 installed Adobe Flash player version 11.3.370.178 automatically for me in the desktop IE.

Not every site uses the same format. I run into this frequently with other browsers as well where some plugin will be needed in order to view content on one page. And that didn't matter if I had already installed flash player, shock player, java runtime, etc.
