Microsoft shares its vision of the future

Do you remember the "Vision of the Future" they released 15 to 20 years ago they said would be the reality in 10 years...

It doesn't give one much confidence in Microsoft's predictive capabilities. When Windows 8 was released there should have been a push to get affordable touch screens in the hands of the users. That was not done and I feel Windows 8 has suffered accordingly.... Had that been done, this prediction might have had a better chance of coming true.

I thought it amusing the desktop actually looked like a futuristic iMac. All kidding aside, we are definitely heading this way. I would guess probably another 15 years though. The hardware, while advancing rapidly, still has a ways to go before we see things like a book type tablet, and bracelets that can match fabric designs and not look geeky.

At the same time the other interesting view in this demo was the work environment. You basically have a global workforce that appeared to be a cross between contractors and companies. The woman who goes to the office to look at the project proposal, as opposed to simply doing it from home, I thought was an interesting outlook. While offices still have their place, I think we are at the point now where we can be the proverbial guy on the beach a.k.a. IBM commercial about a decade ago. I think you will see more home offices in 15 years rather than companies.
