We encourage you to apply all of these updates. For more information about this month’s security updates, including the detailed view of the Exploitability Index (XI) broken down by each CVE, visit the Microsoft Bulletin Summary webpage. Just a FYI (KB3001652) Update to Visual Studio 2010 Tools for Office runtime seems to be stuck doing nothing for 30 mins on 3 of my machines. May want to skip that update and install it separately. One of the machine is a Windows 8.1 computer.

I believe this Update has already been pulled from the Update Site.

After reading this message I installed everything except KB3001652 and when complete it was no longer a pending update. Checked for updates again and another small update showed up but KB3001652 was nowhere to be found.

Thanks for the advance information, saved me some aggravation.

Yes, I hit this snag as well and even launched a support ticket on the problem. It affected 4 of my machines, and forced me to identify the process name (starts with vstor) which I killed ("end task" in Task Manager) to regain control of my machine. A couple of reboots later and the problem mysteriously fixed itself. Most vexing! I had to reboot my SP3 about 6 times before I was able to cure the BSOD (pages locked in memory) that occurred during the shutdown phase. All seems to be working well now on all four affected machines, and I just upgraded my wife's PC with no problems at all. Sigh.

Same in my Dell Venue 8 Pro tab. I restarted tab without any indication of progress in installing updates in Windows update shown to me, stuck in Installing updates for 12hrs in the close down screen.

For now, I just force shutdown my tab & not going to install them as of now.

For a fresh install, starting with Win 8.1 Pro OEM DVD disk bought from computer shop, is there one update which acts like the old Service Pack that can be saved, and removes the need to download all previous updates?

Considering the number of botched, revised and/or pulled updates over the last 6 months I doubt if such a thing exists if it ever did with windows 8.1.

Check Option One in this tutorial. Last time I downloaded it was 8.1 with Update (also called Update 1) so it probably has more then a DVD you can buy. Works with all keys.
