Microsoft Windows 8.1 OEM pricing revealed

Microsoft still hasn't gone public with how much it plans to charge its PC maker partners (OEMs) or customers with Windows 10.

But thanks to a document published on Microsoft's OEM Partner Center site, we do know how much it is charging PC makers for Windows 8.1 on Intel-based tablets. (And why Microsoft describes its under nine-inch screen pricing as "zero dollars" instead of free.)

Thanks :thumb: When I purchased my Dell desktop I requested and got the installation disk for free. When I upgrade to Windows 10 I wonder if I'll be able to get an installation disk or be able to create one after I upgrade that my pc will accept should I need to do a reinstall ? :orb:

The Win10 upgrade will be via Windows Update - I doubt OEM's will be giving away anything.

NB. MS has not disclosed which editions are excluded from the free upgrade (Last time Win7 Starter and Basic were excluded from the Win8 upgrade offer)

Just a heads up before people go out buying eg. Win8 with Bing and being dissapointed in the end.

With Windows 10 (and 8.*) for that matter, there will no doubt be sources for .iso files that you can use to build a bootable USB Flash Drive (UFD) to install or repair. You probably won't need optical media of any kind.
