Windows 8 Release Preview: A Wish List of Changes[/h] By Jared Newman, PCWorld Apr 24, 2012 9:06 AM

Microsoft has announced that it will launch a “Release Previewof Windows 8 during the first week of June. This will likely be a feature-complete version of Windows 8, requiring only bug fixes before the final product launch later this year.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the things Microsoft should change in the Release Preview.
[h=2]Bring Back the Start Button, or Something Like It[/h] Most people are not power users. Without any sort of guidance on how to navigate the Windows 8 desktop without a Start button, they will be lost. For proof, watch this video of Chris Pirillo's father trying to use Windows 8. Microsoft made a bad call to ditch the Start button without any guidance in its place.

So this will be the RC version rite?

it will be equivalent to what was called the Release Candidate now labeled the Release Preview. I think the main for the name change is how MS wanted 8 widely available following all the leaks seen with 7 builds where they now would rather have it ready for download at any time as well as boolstering how many more downloads over 7 have been seen so far.

According to reports while not official by MS it was scheduled for late May but will now actually be seen during early June. That will be a month off from when the 7 RC was out back in May 2009.

This will provide a much better look at what will become the RTM release once all of the beta bugs are dealt with later this year. Hopefully they addressed the main complaint on the loss of the Start Orb/Shutdown-Logoff-Restart button in favor of the new Metro Start screen. The question asked by many would be an automatic logon to desktop over closing that up constantly.

What we have on now is the beta equivalent while the Release Preview is more or less the RC for 8 under a slight name change. That should prove to be far less buggy for a start while the CP has only run into a few things here as expected. The RP will be what you really want to take a test drive with! :D

Can't be the same as the Release Candidate. Still bugs in it, especially in the hardware department(System Devices).

Can't be the same as the Release Candidate. Still bugs in it, especially in the hardware department(System Devices).

That was before the RP was out. What I have been finding since however paints a different story! More and more I hear people saying they are finding the RP more buggy then the CP! At least the CP would go on VM Player while the RP won't finish any install to VM attempt there and caused a number of issues when adding a boot entry in for 7 later with a PC Refresh option used automatically adding 7 in. Suddenly both 8 and 7 started seeing freeze ups right when first arriving at the desktop!

Once the Disk Check tool was run and got 7 running normal it was time for a clean install of 7 anyways leaving 8 out of the equation as far as boot entries. The next step taken later was switching from the Native ide mode to AHCI to see the two OS drives reinstalled as SCSI devices. 7 adopted to the change on the spot while... oops! the RP would no longer load!

The next test was removing the RP for a Linux VBox setup of both 7 and 8. Guess which one would not install to a new VM on the Linux side of VirtualBox? 7 went on without a hitch! Again the RP failed to see working results there. The next step will be to simply see the RP replace the distro used as a strictly stand alone install for the last look at it!

No rush here! Have anther 7 Pro case to get running in the mean time! :D
