    Bye bye Internet Explorer??

There's been talk for a while that Microsoft was going to make some big changes to Internet Explorer in the Windows 10 time frame, making IE "Spartan" look and feel more like Chrome and Firefox.

It turns out that what's actually happening is Microsoft is building a new browser, codenamed Spartan, which is not IE 12 -- at least according to a couple of sources of mine. Thomas Nigro, a Microsoft Student Partner lead and developer of the modern version of VLC, mentioned on Twitter earlier this month that he heard Microsoft was building a brand-new browser. Nigro said he heard talk of this during a December episode of the LiveTile podcast.

Lol. I only use IE for 2 things: Online banking, OneDrive. I have Opera/Firefox for evrything else. If M$ thinks their own home brewn browser is enough for non-banking non-onedrive use, then all the more power to them...

Even if you don't like Microsoft browsers why is competition a bad thing? If Chrome still "wins" after we see what they cook up then use Chrome...
I welcome more browser innovation can't wait to see what they cook up.

IE is best for Touch and windows tablets. Nothing can compete with IE in those functionality!

Microsoft should make IE more like Opera, in my opinion.

Internet Explorer still works for me - Need to visit a site or forum... no problem. Online banking, shopping, secure sites... we can do that. No fuss, no muss. And before the "but it's subject to attacks and security holes"... what computer code isn't? Sony certainly can attest to that

Anyway I just looked up web Browser Statistics and it shows Google chrome is by far the most widely used browser today... but as noted on that site, stats can be misleading. So, for example, I like to play what I call "inside the numbers" where I take into consideration factors that may influence statistical numbers and then re-weigh those numbers.

So in this case I consider the portable device market where the Android OS market has a large share. Also consider that most Android devices now come with Google Chrome as their default browser - my Samsung Galaxy S5 does.

Now, with all those portable devices out there with Google's Chrome browser, and more and more people using their mobile devices instead of PC desktops with Internet Explorer installed... its understandable why Google has a huge share of the browser market now. I know for me... when I use my desktop or laptop, I use Internet Explorer, but when I use my Samsung GS5 (Android device) for browser service... its Google Chrome. Also consider most people are on their mobile devices than their desktops/laptops a fair amount of time and their you have it...

So... I ask this question: if a fair amount of people suddenly dropped Android, would Chrome's usage numbers be that high?

Anyway this is what Microsoft has to deal with, and in order to stay relevant in the browser world, they have to move from the "desktop" mentality to the mobile mentality in order to compete with the likes of Google. The numbers certainly show they're getting crushed there. To me it starts with their hard push into the tablet market.

    My two cents.

Just so long as they remember those of us who prefer our 'desktop mentality' and cater for our needs, fine by me.
