It looked a better before. They have made it TOO flat. It doesn't look like minimalist design like they are trying to achieve. It just looks badly done. Too much effects or badly done effects is bad so I understand where they are going with with this philosophy but what they have done here is worse. Having well done effects is what they should be doing. All this flatness is not creating a minimalist design but is creating an ugly boring design. However I do agree it's done better than how they've incorporated in windows 8 but it's still not well designed. The ribbon is just making everything look cluttered and ugly. But there is just some parts of these window designs that it's obvious that a LOT more definition is needed like a shadow, some shading and a little more detail or a few more effects.
