    Prerequisites

To install this update, you must have update MS14-080: Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer: December 9, 2014 installed. (KB3008923)

I have not used IE for many years now, and use Chrome. So I am assuming I do not need to install that IE update. Am I correct?

    I've commented on this before.

No issues with the update apart from the fact that my free space dropped from 55.6gb down to 54.9gb as a direct result of this one update. I see this behaviour often with updates and find that over several days that the space comes back. I wonder whether there is some anomaly in the way free space is reported as it doesn't seem possible that this could be happening for real.

do you have either System Restore or System Protection in Win8.1 turned on?
I have that one turned off and installed KB3025390 and didn't see a big dip in disk space on my dad's Toshiba C55dt laptop.
maybe there's other stuff being affected besides the update.

System restore is off. This space thing is something I've noticed before with W8.1 and updates. I'm actually 0.8gb down now compared to where I was pre update. I've altered nothing on the system and have also run full disk clean (system files) and a command line defrag to consolidate all free space.

I've no reasonable explanation for this I'm afraid.

Just to quickly update on this space issue. Today 22nd Dec my free space has suddenly jumped back to the pre update level. Its very odd that this happens but I've seen it do this before after updates and running a full clean up. Some days later something happens. And its a big jump, 0.8gb this time.

As the title says upon checking for Updates I am getting Codes 801901F7 or 80072EE2 or 80072EFD which I believe is a problem with connecting with the MS server. Have ran the Troubleshooters, Reset, cleared the Cache, SFC and DISM, all reporting no problems. No connection problems either.
