Firefox 34 Launches With Yahoo As Its Default Search Engin

Mozilla today rolled out Firefox 34. While most browser updates these days aren’t all that exciting, this one includes a couple of interesting new features. What most users in North America will notice right off the bat, however, is that this is the first version of Firefox with Yahoo as its default search experience.

It’s easy enough to change the default search engine in Firefox, and I would guess that most current users will quickly switch back to Google. The Yahoo Search experience, which the company specifically tweaked for Firefox users, is perfectly all right for most searches. But at the end of the day, it feels like it doesn’t have some of Google’s smarts, especially when it comes to queries that would usually trigger Google’s Knowledge Graph.

Updating from earlier versions doesn't change default search engine.

Really? They're ditching Google? I've always thought Google was tightly integrated into FF, which is why I've never used FF in the past other than to save Youtube videos...

You must be thinking of Chrome, What is "tightly integrated" integrated in FF from Google ?

FF comes with a lot of search engines and it is easy to change the default.
Also as soon as you start typing in the search box it gives you a list so you can use any search engine for that search.

Darn! I was hoping that the next update to Firefox would fix the printing problem in 10. Firefox still prints blank pages in Win 10. It still works good in 8, so all is not lost.

up dated from 33.1??, it changed my default to YH. Changed back to google but now the selection is clumsy. I always like to type in the item to be searched for, use the pull down and select the search engine one after another.

You should be able to do so with the 'OneOff' buttons:

Those who wish to enable the 'old' search interface features:
In a new tab navigate to 'about:config' (without quotes), press enter, click on "I'll be careful, I promise", navigate to 'browser.search.showOneOffButtons' which will be set to True by default, double click on the entry to toggle it to False, restart your browser.

Yahoo... Really Mozilla?

It was a financial move. Google decided to not renew their contract with Mozilla. You still can set Google as your default search.

I have to say when IE and Chrome fails, FF has always functioned for me.

Chrome is my default, but with the FF new sync features (which work without a flaw), I have seriously considered switching, and many parts are much easier to use. Though the plugins portion (not extensions) still needs work.

But, their default page always asking for donations is a bit irritating. I already donated, I should be able to turn it off somehow.
