Optional Update KB3000850

  1. #131

    Latest update from avast https://forum.avast.com/index.php?to...715#msg1153715

"The fix is prepared and it is currently in last phases of testing in our quality department. Once the testing is done, it is going to be released as an EmUpdate. Please understand that we do not want to underestimate the testing, because the update introduces a change in one of Avast drivers.

Thank you all for your patience!"

The Avast problem came to light pretty quickly probably because of the high number of users it has but I'm just wondering if there's any other software out there that's been affected by this update?

Clearly Microsoft didn't do enough testing of the update in real world scenarios before it's release and have been very shy at coming forward with an explanation for the problems so far.

Too late for me, already switched AV and not only because of this problem. None, absolutely none of other SW I have exhibited no change since that update.

I must admit that I'm slightly surprised that so many of you don't have backup images available so that you can revert back to them when problems like this arise and instead rely on system restore or uninstalling things which can leave a trail of debris in its wake.

W8.1 includes the facility, there is no need for any software to be installed. You really should use it.

Along time ago it was commonly know there were two types of users.
Those who had a crash and were not backed up and those who had not had a crash yet.

Well, I have tried many times without success to install this update.

Attached is a copy of my latest CBS log, if anyone can help with it.

    Thanks.

I always keep at least 2 system backups (one monthly) but it's just a last resort, better to try and find a cause of a problem first and eventually fix it.

I do a Image every time before installing these things, esp when one is this large. matter of fact I use 3 and sometimes 4 Imagining programs (just in case), I learned early on what happens when you hose your system and can't "fix" it , took me 3 full days of re installing my OS and all my programs one time.

that said, I had no problems D'L, installing, or after a cold reboot.

as for AV I use COMODO V7

I never see using a backup as a last resort. Certainly have a try and see where something has gone wrong first, but then I wouldn't hesitate to reinstall a backup and knowing then how to fix the problem when it happens again, fix it right first time... if that makes sense In other words, learn from it all when its gone, but then go back to a perfect incorrupt image and then do it right.

Once you start installing, uninstalling, installing again then I think that's the start of a slippery slope.

Only once since staring with Win8 I had to resort to full backup restoration and that's because of dead HDD. All other problems were fixed.
