I had installed Mint the other day - this seems a lot better.

Made an image of Mint partitions with Paragon HDM12 - can restore image or extract individual files , it appears to handle ext4 very well.

I wasn't able to install Pinguy yet because when it was installing, the partition manager kept crashing every time I tried.

I figure to use GParted to clear the HDD and then try again, when I feel up to it. I'm putting down some drinks right now so probably not the best of times lol.

I'd highly recommend taking a look at Cinnamon It's still quite early in the development cycle but it's looking really good. It should be available in most major distribution repositories.

Windows 8 removes the Start button and instead depends on hot corners for essential functionality, and in the current beta there is little to tell users what to do...But to make the new operating system easier to understand for mouse and keyboard users, it will contain a tutorial to explain how things work.

I'm already confused with linux. Ubuntu, Linux mint, unix, and on and on and on for dozens of versions...how do people do this?! Oh wait, they don't, except for robots.

I'm totally fine with the start menu being gone, but gee, the START BUTTON?! I still feel ouch from time to time. I don't get why they must. It totally segregates Desktop with Start Screen. Yeah, ok, I'll give them the fact that they want to move away from the Desktop for tablet users, but the rest of the world still uses it. There are better solutions to integrate the two interfaces together in a harmonious way.

Yes they are better solutions, but Microsoft doesnít want to improve the PC they want to eliminate it in few years. Itís funny how they return to the source, before the PC , everything was clients connected to servers. Microsoft is not only returning to the source, they want to be THE only source.

For the last 30 years, I enjoyed build my PC, if Microsoft wants to sell us a terminal that we have no control on it, then I'm gone play more with my train layout and just forget about computers.

Hi! I was wondering if the Start button will ever return to Windows 8?
I got a new computer with Windows 8. I put the Classic Shell on. It skips the worthless Metro interface and goes right to the desktop. Some observations. The Aero Glass interface is gone. Some guy has come up with a work around but I am a little jumpy about trying that. The "new look" 8...

Get your start button back in Customization
Get your start button back Well, there is no need to fret about that anymore. Thanks to a heads-up from okorsal, we can show you a simple Registry tweak that will restore the familiar Windows Desktop complete with the Windows 7-style Start Menu. (Thanks also to geek.com for publishing the tweak.)...
I find the new Windows 8 "start" lack the hierarchical organisation. After I installed a view programs the "start" page just become a big pile of mess. I would like to get the start button on the desktop. Is there a way to do it?
