Microsoft's Visual Studio Online outage hits users

Microsoft's Visual Studio Online service has been down since 6:30 a.m. PT/9:30 a.m. ET on August 14.

Visual Studio Online is a collection of developer services based on Team Foundation Server that are running on Azure. Microsoft launched Visual Studio Online in November 2013.

"We are currently investigating an issue that has caused a disruption with the Visual Studio Online service," a company spokesperson said via an e-mailed statement. "The service has been unavailable since 6:30 AM, PT this morning. Microsoft’s DevOps teams are engaged and actively investigating the issue and will provide further updates as soon as it is resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate our customers’ patience while working on resolving this issue."

I asked Microsoft officials whether some service degradations happening on Azure today in certain geographies are causing the Visual Studio Online problems. Right now, that doesn't appear to be the case.

    Hi there

Maybe the Cuckoos are coming out of their nests. Cloud Cuckoo Land seems to be a real reailty these days -- more and more services seem to have problems -- ebay itself just a few days ago !!

    Cheers

But let us not forget that local installs or corporate run networks also can experience outages leaving these workers stranded as well.

The cost savings of not having to have staff on site to run some of these servers, not to mention the saved hardware costs of buying the servers, and the cost of licensing the software locally may be enough to offset the occasional lost revenue from an outage of the cloud such as this one.

I can´t install MVS on my Windows 8.1 due to missing core libraries. I've tried 2010, 2012 and 2013 versions and same error occurs anyway. I have a valid license and I have no idea how to solve this. Thanks
