Lot's of people at work upgraded from Samsung S3's to S4's and S5's. Everybody that I know with a Samsung handset is pretty damn happy, and that includes my wife and myself. I have an S3, and I'm eligible for an upgrade at work, but I like my S3 so much and even thought it's over 2 years old, I have no desire to switch.
    Hi there

While I like the Windows Phone system I really don't like those old square "Brick" over coloured and garish looking Lumia's --I think these would appeal more to 10 - 12 year old Schoolgirls.

Ms needs to hire some decent probably slightly "Gay-ish" Italian designers who'd come up with really sleek Models --I'd buy a nice thin Metal thin one in a flash (but please no SQUARE corners -- they aren't very comfortable in a pocket).

I'm sure this would distinguish it from (IMO) the excellent Samsung S4/S5's and would definitely appeal to a decent (not Mass) market -- Apple have done the same for ages with their high end computers - forget about "The Masses" and concentrate on a decent but STUNNING looking product.

In a Mature Market that's the only game in town --you have to distinguish yourself from all the other "Also rans".

People also miss the whole point of the SP3 -- it's NOT simply a TABLET but a CONVERTIBLE dual purpose device - very portable and will be successful within its niche market. These Convertible type devices will be increasingly the way of the future for Mobile workers. (Instead of a Laptop ands say an Ipad this device fulfils BOTH roles).

(In any case isn't a PC merely a Tablet with a Fixed screen and built in keyboard !!!!). Don't forget the SP3 can have a nice i7 processor and you can attach all manner of peripherals when using it in an Office or at Home.

Printing is also a breeze these days with Wifi printers etc.

Ms of course is spending a lot of money on trying to get into what it sees is a gap in the market - only Lenovo have gone into "The convertible" type of form factor - and while cheaper they are still very fiddly to use - -- so MS hire some designers to create DECENT Handsets for your currently HIDEOUS models --the OS is fine, and to Lenovo - Hire some Engineers to sort out the cack handed way you have to fiddle with removing the Screen to operate your convertibles in "Tablet Mode".

    Cheers

Yea I have the S3 as well. Quite happy with it. I have another year to go on my contract, so maybe S6 for me by then...??? Time will tell.

    Uh hu.....

In reality, Nokia aimed for the higher end first and Microsoft killed off a REAL higher end Windows Phone mostly because they felt it wasn't ready yet; but you can't build marketshare just on high end. Look at android, it's vast majority of marketshare is all lower end spec devices, not SG3s or SG4s or SG5s, but dirt cheap no-name handset makers. They're doing the right move this time around and attacking from the bottom up because when you get a Windows Phone in someone's hands like a Lumia 520, they're probably going to end up upgrading one day soon to a higher end Windows Phone because of the stellar experience that 520 offers at such a low price. It's what going to differentiate android and Windows Phone in that space. android has no design regulations or anything like that and that means poor experiences or poor quality or both. Windows Phone has chassis design specs that can be based off an android device, but needs to meet such and such expectations to become a Windows Phone. Combine that with a forward effort in getting top games and apps ported to 512 MB RAM devices as well as scaling nicely on larger 1080p screens; Windows Phone just offers a hands down win in the UX department.

Speaking of gayish Italian designers making Nokia Lumias...

In Italy, Windows Phone outsells the iphone and is second to android. Guess what handsets make up most of that? The Nokia Lumia 920 (watch out, you'll cut yourself raw on those corners!) and the Lumia 520 among the top two.

Windows Phone Market Share Increases Slightly in Europe, to 8.8%, iOS Loses Momentum

But yet, I don't see people getting rid of their Android phones and flocking to Windows phones.

I work for an Australian company, with offices in the UK and the US. We have more people on Blackberry that Windows phones. Our Australian office is pretty much all going iPhones..even though we have to buy them outright and they cost like $1,000 each. Our US office is almost all Android, with a handful of iPhones.

Four years ago, no one would have got rid of their iphone or blackberry for an android, yet they did. Windows Phone is still too young for that yet.

Australia has an interesting marketshare for smartphones. iphone reigns top, android, I think blackberry and then Windows Phone. It's very similar to the US oddly enough marketshare wise.

The company I work for switched from using Windows Embedded 8 Handheld for android 4.4.2. Strangest thing I've ever heard.

Why do I like my "old square "Brick" over coloured and garish looking Lumia"?? (I bought the black) Because it sets it/me apart from the round-cornered > overpriced > worthless-in-Windows-world > pieces of fad costume jewelry called an iPhone. The I-wanna-be-an-iPhone-(we-got sued)-look-alike Samsung Galaxies aren’t any better. Absolutely worthless in Windows world.

Yes, I’d prefer a brushed metal case, but do you own a phone with a metal case? You like the WP system?? Then you’d own one no matter what it looked like or what case it’s in. Function before form.

You always seem to mock the larger screen sizes also. Looks like the 4.5 inch and up sales are rising. Here’s some interesting research results:

I enjoy my Lumia 1520 very much. Great device and use it a lot. Many people are inquisitive of its size and when I light it up to the Start Screen they’re even more inquisitive.

"(but please no SQUARE corners -- they aren't very comfortable in a pocket)"??! Geez! How tight do you wear your pants? I have mine in a leather wallet case and get it in and out of my front pocket with ease. Hardly know it’s there. Sometimes I have to pat my pocket to make sure it is there.

And how many times have I read "The UI is great for a tablet or phone, but certainly not for my all-powerful tower PC!" Yet a lot of you don't own a Windows phone or tablet.

    Hi there
I don't mock large screen sizes for a phone - I use the S5 myself --what I do mock are those stupid "Phablets" - that's an excessively large screen size to be making a phone call with !!!. Try using one of those at Oxford Circus underground station on the London Underground in the middle of the evening Rush Hour !!!!.

I also really don't like the dead square corners. - I do think though Ms will attract the Blackberry crowd to the Windows phone though - I'm not sure if anybody has attempted to "Custom Rom" an Android phone with a Windows system on it -- would be interesting !!!! - not sure if due to different processor whether it's even possible -- but perhaps some sort of built in VM running on the Android system !!!.

Ms BTW could offer corporates things like LYNC on a Windows phone -- would be attractive for these people.

    Cheers
