Windows 8.1 Update 2 Confirmed for August

A second update to Windows 8.1 has been rumored to release in the fall for a number of months and there's been plenty of speculation about what the update will include. Early on, it was suggested that Update 2 might include a new Start menu, but we've since learned that's not the case.

I told you last week that the update might show up for the August Patch Tuesday. I've heard from a source today that the update, will indeed, show up for August Patch Tuesday so you can definitely count on it being included in the batch of regular updates. My source also gave more insight into what to expect from the update.

Looks more like a bug fix than anything else. We'll find out next week I suppose.

Details are still very sketchy... good idea not to call it Update 2 - that would have implied cumulative.. like an SP... but "August Update" sounds a bit corny.

Update: A minor Microsoft Windows 8.1 Update 2 still on tap for August 12 | ZDNet

As my sources have been saying for some time, Microsoft is planning to deliver a second update for Windows 8.1 on August 12, this month's Patch Tuesday.

And, again, as those same sources have said, Microsoft won't be making a big deal out of this next update.

Update 2, to which Microsoft will be referring as the "August update," won't be mandatory, unlike the first Windows 8.1 Update. It also won't be cumulative. It'll be pushed as just another monthly update to Windows 8.1. It will include some relatively minor design changes, I hear, but nothing big, feature-wise.

Yes it is called the next major release of Windows. Micro$oft has said Windows 8 is done and laid to rest. All the major show stopper type fixes have been done and the finesse will be added in 9.
I for one am looking for a return of Aero. I am not a gamer and bought a high spec. video card purely for the eye candy effects as I like that. Otherwise what is the point I may as well have on board graphics.

^ I don't get it. Why would u need a discrete graphics card to run aero? I can run aero (Win 7 Ultimate) just fine on a 7 y/o machine with Intel integrated graphics! It's just as "pretty" as another machine that is 2 y/o...

Yes true but a faster more powerful graphics card can do a better job. I have a netbook that runs Aero just fine. It also comes in handy with virtual machines and the amount of Windows I have open. In a way it was my justification to spend $150 x 3 for my machines and frankly the capabilities are wasted on Windows 8x at the moment. Like my justification for spending $150 on a sound card when the on board sound works.
