Researchers eye vision-correcting displays for devices

New electronic display technology can automatically correct for vision defects without glasses or contact lenses, according to researchers at the MIT Media Lab and University of California at Berkeley.

The technology has applications for everything from e-readers and tablets to smartphones and GPS displays. By building vision correction into electronic displays researchers are hoping to improve conditions in emerging markets where glasses and prescription lenses don't come easy.

Hi there

Great idea especially when people who don't wear glasses are wondering why you are looking at what appears to them as a totally blurred Screen !!!! however the problem is that when you are NOT looking at the device and you need your glasses what then !!

I think though if you only need Reading Glasses it could be a great idea.

(With New technology --I'm always a bit of a "Devil's advocate"). !!

Cheers

Anything that means I don't need to wear my reading glasses for so many hours in the day is good with me. :)

The downside would be where people use this in the same way as those cheap reading glasses you can buy in many stores (and which I bought for several years) i.e. they don't get their vision professionally checked out.
