USB Devices can be used for Hacking

USB devices such as mice, keyboards and thumb-drives can be used to hack into personal computers in a potential new class of attacks that evade all known security protections, a top computer researcher revealed on Thursday.

    Hi there

That's hardly new - in any case if you have Bit locker enabled it makes the whole process much harder -- not impossible but not easy.

If you have any connectivity at all to a computer then it can be hacked. The only way to have 100% security is to have the machine switched off from the mains, and every cable unplugged 100% of the time -- but obviously this isn't practicable. !!!!

Stuxnet - as far back as 2010 had this ability -- I believe IRAN was involved in some high level hacking at the time.

This type of hacking though is DONKEYS YEARS OLD - maybe if it's only being reported over where you are now I'd better remove my money from Banks that have I.T operations there !!!!.

Hollywood has lots of TV series where using a USB stick is the key to hacking a network or computer

The latest series 5 COVERT AFFAIRS currently being aired has several episodes where this is done.

Guess I'm being so ignorant here,

Really, are these series & movies based on real incidents or just made up ones for fiction..
Have seen few myself with all those sci-fi gimmicks.

Yeah, now it's clear is really based on some facts

Edward Snowden has really worked hard publicising these facts I suppose

    Hi there

These are based on Real incidents -- also remember that if someone writes about something - even in fiction then someone else will sit down and think 'Could I actually make / do etc That'.

Arthur C Clarke wrote about geostationary satellites long before they actually existed -- now we couldn't do without them, Isaac Asimov envisioned a global search engine (Multivac) and portable computers long before the first PC was even thought of and his ideas on Robotics ("The Three Laws") are very relevant today as we design machines that are capable of learning and taking independent decisions. For example Military Drones are now in increasing use -- they eventually will have to make independent decisions on where and how to employ weaponary -- and as machines they might not think in terms of "Collateral Damage -- i.e innocent civilians getting shot / killed" in the same way as hopefully responsible Humans do.

Micro miniaturisation is common in surgery, artificial genes are being created for new drugs and plants / foor production and even as recently as the original Star trek series the idea of a portable communications device WITH VIDEO was regarded as totally implausible science fiction. Now smart phones with sophisticated cameras are EVERYWHERE.

Oh.. Ok , Sky is not the limit ,
Though few of the thoughts have realised, some of them are still amateurish or still to be explored and developed more..
USB bug could really make a mess of everything without even connecting to the internet.

After upgrading to 8.1 all of my previously listed devices are no longer listed under devices... in fact there are no devices listed. I can also not add a device. If I look in device manager they are listed there and if I go to print the printer shows up and I can print. The screenshot below...
