Microsoft shows off Windows 8 business app 'concepts'

At its Convergence conference for Dynamics ERP and CRM customers and partners, which kicks off on March 19, Microsoft will show off early concepts of what the company’s business apps could end up looking like when optimized for Windows 8.

The Dynamics team will be demonstrating these concept apps in Houston this week for the 10,000 or so expected Convergence attendees. These concept apps are Windows 8 HTML5 “Metro-style” (a k a WinRT-based) clients that connect to Dynamics ERP and CRM back-end services.

These images demonstrate very well how useful Metro is as a consumption delivery mechanism, but it's still going to fail miserably as a productivity tool.

Windows 8, Office 2013, everything will be Metro,

"sweet heart do you kow here I put my Ubuntu Linux For Dummies book ? "

Serious; all the Metro crap is good for the Marketing Departement , not for regular staff.

Have to say it does look intriguing but I have more questions than answers. As often happens, the comments to the story are better than the actual story.

That picture looked like a MS Project concept.

I'm using the "Ribbon" version for an assignment on my training course (it's not "user friendly" at all).
They said, "Here's a list of people and equipment and the "MS Project 2010" program. Create a project plan using that info."

Since there were no tutorials about using "MS Project 2010", it's a baffling ordeal.
The Help instructions are basically useless.

I don't see how tiles are going to make that abomination more usable.

That picture looked like a MS Project concept.

That's exactly what my wife said when I showed her those screens. She's a project manager who works with giant mega-million $ contracts, spreadsheets, huge amounts of data. I asked her - would something like you see here be helpful (as much as you could tell from just looking at screenshots.) She said perhaps although it seemed a little simplistic. She liked the clarity of the design. But like I'd said earlier above, the end result is intriguing, but how you get all that data entered in the first place is just as important, if not more so. There's just no way to properly evaluate this stuff without workers attempting real work with 8.

Agreed.
That seems to be what the pro-Metro crowd seem to be ignoring.
How do you "fingerpaint" your data into these Metro apps (databases, spreadsheets, word docs, project details, media editing changes, etc.)?

As many people have pointed out these "post-pc devices" are consumption devices.
They are basically useless for creating content.
