Six Clicks: Six ways Windows Phone is better than iPhone

A few weeks ago, Microsoft sent me a nice new Lumia Icon to play around with. My goal was to get a good overall picture of the Windows Phone 8.1 experience, so when I wrote about Android and iOS, I would also understand the Windows Phone experience. One of the commenters suggested I not write my final review until I spent a couple of weeks, at least, with the phone, and his advice was good.

Windows Phone has been growing on me.

My very first impressions were the typical “Why does Microsoft do it this brain-damaged way?” questions we’ve always asked. After a few weeks of tinkering with the phone, I’m not yet ready to pronounce my official opinion, but I’ve found some things to like. In fact, I’ve found some things I like about Windows phone that aren’t available or aren’t done the same way on the iPhone.

I need to be clear here: I am not saying Windows Phone is better than the iPhone (or the reverse). What I am saying is there are aspects of Windows Phone that are either not available for the iPhone or done better than the iPhone.

I like how I'm not constrained to a sea of icons on a smallish screen. One of the main reasons I left the platform. Second, the white on black with hints of color based on my theme preference is such an amazing, much more pleasant experience on my eyes than the blinding white ios forces upon you.

It's just overall pretty great not having to deal with iTunes ever again.

I concur...I hate iTunes. I've been using Windows phones since 6.5 and it is far superior in sound (as in talking on the phone) to an iphone. I can always tell when someone calls me from an iphone, it just sounds terrible. My 2 cents...

I don't see anything good about Windows Phone. I can download any app I want without complaining if its on the platform or not, bigger screens are coming. iOS look is fine, something is wrong with some peoples eyes? I get all messages from my iPhone on my Mac, iPhones have a good build design, and it just works. I have no problem using iTunes, just throw in your music, press sync and your on your way. Idk what problems you guys see. And finally don't ask me, ask the millions of people that use iPhones. If Windows Phone was in fact superior according to claims, the numbers aren't reflecting that. In fact, Windows Phone won't grow anymore because its very well dominated. People won't even bother with it. When Apple and Google introduce their new phones and OSes, Windows Phone is just lost. It's gonna take a miracle for it to actually compete.

I'm glad I have an option that doesn't just conform to trends. People don't bother with it is suppose to sway me to adjust my needs?

I'm going for the best overall experience and ios doesn't fit my workflow and aesthetically just isn't appealing to me. I couldn't care less what people want. I CAN care that what they're doing isn't what i'd do. I'm proud of my own unique tastes and don't let market numbers or other opinions dictate a need to use a separate os with nothing to offer me when there's a clear working choice that is different enough not to look exactly the same on every phone, and has a clear advantage in working in harmony with my desktop,pc and tablet. Everything else is a non starter until a company can let me run my x86 type productive apps on my tablet/pc and when i'm not working, give me access to the same apps as i'd have on my phone within the same ecosystem.

There's no company offering this vision and promise except Ubuntu and that's a no go for now, so MS it is!

I have to ask > Did you read the article? He states six reasons why the WP is better than the iPhone, not that it's overall better. Each have their advantage. It's just that there's different strokes for different folks. ;)

Yanno, I've never even so much as held an iphone in my hands.

And don't bother buying one. Like I tell my nephew when he flaunts his > It's just an overpriced piece of fad costume jewelry! :D

Actually they are well built devices. I think they and accessories are overpriced more than some, but nice nonetheless. He also has a new Mac, which are nice devices. Apple does put out quality hardware. I think MS puts emphasis on the same quality of their hardware. That's not to say MS products aren't overpriced, but then what isn't these days with inflation? There's no way my Nokia Lumia 1520 should have cost $550 USD knowing there's at least a 400% markup on phones, but it does what I expected and more, especially with the 8.1 free upgrade.

Bottom line is that some of us chose the MS route for our needs. OS UI similarity, personalization, aesthetics, software (especially Office), and services along with synching. I agree with EMINENT in his post #7. No one except Ubuntu is close and will continue the promised endeavor.
