Interesting read. Although, at times it seemed like there was an over exaggerated response to metro design.

I agree though, that Windows 8 has, by default, split into two operating environments. It's not contingeous anymore. I have to configure the Start Screen and get rid of some metro apps so I can work with it on a desktop. I'd rather see Windows 8 adapt to the desktop, and not try to make it more touchy when it's not. I'd rather see Windows 8 adapt itself to a tablet by making use of the metro design, apps, and Start Screen. I don't want to see become an operating system with two identities on one device, pick one and adapt the other I say.

Maybe there will be an option to install either the Metro or Desktop UI depending upon the device for which it is loaded to. You could have the option of installing the unused UI at any time.

A lot of people coming onto these kind of forums recently probably don't know one important thing.

Many here ( and elsewhere) have had several builds before this one.

MS have had feedback and telemetry from those earlier builds.

MS have deliberately removed from this build what many of the early users were choosing to do.

They were not intending to offer the kind of choice Michael (and many others) are suggesting they may get in the final.

    That is perfectly clear.

However - the user base for the Consumer Preview is much larger.

I don't think MS were expecting such a large negative reaction.

It is entirely possible they may change their minds and make a few simple changes to try and lessen the criticism.

    Agreed.

    Having telemetry is one thing.
Interpreting it correctly is another thing entirely.
