This idea of not covering up is a canard.
If you use Windows, you will have to cover something up.

This idea of click complaints ... It's got to be 1, really?
You never scroll, ever? For anything?
    You never close anything?

The Windows 7 start menu does not have a classic option.

And I find it sad that I have to resort to a third party to have it any other way
My system has at least 40 third party applications. Should I be sad?

Well, there is no multitasking actually, if speaking the truth. It doesnt matter fullscreen or not, maybe your pc can multitask, but you cant - either way you cannot use many programs at the very same time, you must use one program, then you must switch to another program, but oh look - you arent using first program then... Anyway, there always were some freaks that were going way too far that things could be logical, but must of them are linux users - "oh no, my distro uses 50 mb of ram, my pc is going to die...".

And 2560 X 1440 is a very normal res, i have 1366x768 15.6", and its just nightmare, i can see pixels with my eyes, the picture quality is terrible, not to mention, that nowadays there is so much static space eating things, that actual working space is more like 1366x400... so having 17"+ monitor definitely needs 2560 X 1440.

In that case you can't multitask with desktop programs either but it's because you can't, computer can. With 2 monitors, it's even easier. Most of the time my computer is doing at least 2 tings at one time, sometimes several. Sometimes it's compiling few videos, I'm watching TV on one screen and browsing internet. That's what multicore processor and a lots of memory are for.
Similar could be done with an App running on one screen (let's say calculator) and CAD on the other.

ok. Is that normal on your screen? Without setting the DPI to larger, it is hurtful to look at.
    Going from (2560 x 1440) to (1920 x 1080) makes a huge improvement.

I wrote this a few minutes ago, yes, I did.
... thinking about this comedic scenario,

A person would look at the Windows 8 start screen and say

    "Where's the start menu?"
"you are looking at it" ... a few seconds passes, "what?"
    "That's the menu?"
"the other part is all apps,"
"that's also a menu or where the programs are" ...
"but where's the start menu?" ...
    "isn't there a button?"
"see that in the corner" ...
"Yes, that's the start button" ...
"but isn't it supposed to be round?" ...
"how do I get to the desktop?" ...
    "press the desktop tile" ...
    "What's a desktop tile?"

"ok, I'm on the desktop, but there's no menu?"
    "Where's the menu?"
"click on that thingy in the corner"
"ok, but that goes to the ugly screen!"
    "Where's the start menu?"
"Where's the round ball that's supposed to be in the corner?"
    "they removed it"
    "why?"
    "because"
    "because why?"

"I don't know! I think we can download something that looks like a menu"
"Why did they remove the menu?"
    "I don't know"

    "So Windows 8 doesn't have a menu?"
"I guess so, we'll have to install one"
"ok, see if the store clerk has a menu"
"I don't think they sell menus here"
"This is no good, where's the control panel?"
    "Where is notepad?"
"Can I install a word processor"
"I'm going to need a start menu for that"
"How will I find my documents without a menu?"
"Where do I put my photos?"
"Do they go with these square things?"
    "This doesn't look too good"
"How can I work without a menu?"
"ok. hold on, when we get home, I'll install a menu for you, ok?"
"Why did Microsoft remove the menu?"
    "I don't know"
    "this is ridiculous"
"What are all these square boxes for?"

Hello. Yes it is. But really, whose?
"I'll have to Google how to turn this thing off"

It's been more than 2 years, people still need / prefer the CS.

    "Where's Aero?"
    "It's all flat and ugly"
"How can I disable these tiles or that thing on the right, I think it's called charms?"
"Now I can boot to the desktop and forget the rest, that's pretty cool!"

Why pure ignorance? If someone uses the start menu all the time? That's his/her right and preference. Not ignorance. With a well arranged start menu you can access hundreds of programs and documents very quickely. Faster than by browsing several pages of Start Screens. Few poeple use it, and I almost never use it, because most if not all of your useful shortcuts find there place on the desktop but it's potentialy a formidable tool should you choose to use it.
