    Hi there.

In some ways this is actually GOOD for Ms. It's a well known fact that the more people try to BAN stuff (with very very few exceptions) the more people want it. There actually will now be some sort of "kudos" if you have a PC in China that runs Windows 8/8.1 on it.

Universal law operates here - The Law of Unintended Consequences. You see examples all over the place.

In Some European countries for example you have very severe Rent Controls and almost impossibly long Hire/ Lease periods -- so what happens -- supply of rentable properties dries up, housing lists get longer and longer, huge Black Market operates, and because of restrictive controls Landlords can't be bothered to repair the properties,.

So while the basic idea is good (affordable housing) the implementation merely exacerbates the very problem the system was trying to solve. -You can see the same sort of stuff all over the place so you have to be VERY careful in doing things like Banning suppliers / goods / services or implementing restrictive policies.

This China Ban is just Government purchases as far as I can tell so there won't be any "kudos" for the average Joe. I do see your point though.

    xp extended life

Its not exactly true that XP support has been dropped.
For the average Joe IT IS TRUE.
However, MS and quite a few goverments/large corporations have come to a (paying) arrangement by which its life and support structure will be extended, by at least 2 years.
