May your desktop bloom with Windows themes

Ah, the merry month of May, when one’s fancy turns to delightful thoughts of planting new seedlings in the garden, seeing the flowers bloom… and battling hordes of brain-eating zombies! Introduce the colorful combatants of Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare to your desktop with our new theme, in anticipation of the game’s Windows release on June 24.

Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare released on Xbox One in February. Another recent game launch was Ubisoft’s eagerly awaited Child of Light, which came to the Windows Store on April 30. I particularly love this title’s artwork, so I’m thrilled to be able to bring you a theme featuring some of its gorgeous environmental and concept paintings.

The rest of our new themes are photographic, and feature the works of our community of contributors. Community Showcase Aqua 2 is a sequel to the popular Community Showcase: Aqua theme, and contains images of water in all its forms from 21 different photographers, including Scott Ward, Emily Brush, Erick Bellido, Sarah Leppee, and Maureen Gramlich, who took this dramatic shot of the waves of Lake Ontario crashing on the beach at sunset.

We also have a sequel to the Community Showcase: Everyday Art theme, in which the focus is on intriguing, funny, or unexpectedly beautiful details in everyday life. The images in Community Showcase: Everyday Art 2 were captured by 20 Open Call contributors including Oscar Strangio, Monika Rose, Allan Richardson, and Romain Gimenez. This new set begins with Andra Pavel’s shot of warm golden lamplight glowing like a jewel within the weathered window frame of a house in Brașov, Romania.

Our Community Showcase themes tend to provide a great overview of beautiful places around the world, since each one features photographs from many international contributors. But I am also pleased to introduce two new themes that celebrate specific places. Suranga Weeratunga’s gorgeous photography of Sri Lanka includes images of ancient ruins, sparkling city lights, and coastal beauty, including this stunning shot of traditional stilt fishermen.

Photographer Suman Das provides a virtual tour of the Sights of Monterey with his serene images of Fisherman’s Wharf, Pebble Beach, Lone Cypress Point, and 17-Mile-Drive. It almost makes me want to take a road trip down the coastline of California.

We also publish new wallpapers on a regular basis, in case you have an older version of Windows that can’t use themes, or you prefer to use a single image (perhaps on your lock screen or Windows Phone). Here are a few of the newest ones:

I hope you’ll keep checking back on the Personalization Gallery for more new themes and wallpapers to adorn your desktop for spring, whether your preference tends toward dramatic seascapes, lovely flowers, or flesh-eating zombies.
