If you updated early with the MSDN update

The Update bits that shipped on MSDN last week are not the same as the bits currently being shoveled out of Windows Update

I updated earlier, and as of this moment have had no problems whatsoever, so where are those who are whining that they have a problem. Haven't even seen a thread about anyone having problems. . .

    Hi there
I updated from TECHNET ISO's -- updates seem IDENTICAL to one VM I updated via Windows update.

PLEASE PEOPLE if you post this type of info saying Official MS downloads are flawed / not working / wrong editions etc QUOTE SOURCE -- and when you say "Last week" what editions are you referring to -- there's quite a few ISO's available for download on TECHNET / MSDN so UNLESS YOU HAVE A SUBSCRIPTION and have got a problematic download all you are doing is supplying MIS INFORMATION.

Sorry for being hard but this Forum is well known as a GREAT source of Help and ACCURATE information. and I'm sure we all want to keep it that way.

    Cheers

I updated very early with leaked updates, before this official update. Got 3 updates now and none of them were included in previous one.
So it looks like those leaked, lets call them "RTM" updates were right on the money but they included 3 more after.

I and many users have this problem:
Anyone Noticed Desktop Icons Not Responsive on Win 8.1 Update 1

Could that be it? I still have it even after doing the few Windows updates after installing the ISO from MSDN, after a reboot, the desktop icons will appear as if they are not responding for 1 minute, then everything becomes normal

Auto start programs can take a while to load, with bunch of them, system and HDD can be overwhelmed to the point of slowing everything down. Antivirus programs that load early check every item as it's been loaded and can slow things down considerably. On some marginal systems it is even more noticeable. Solution is to have as clean startup possible and AV set to stat last. Hybrid shutdown is not much help if many programs are open while turning system off, while booting again it tries to open all that again and that takes even more resources.

Could be the ISO has loaded a default graphic driver which is not up to par? After I had installed, from the official ISO, an update loaded a new graphics driver whichhad that effect. - I rolled back.

    Hi there
Here's a list of a couple of the downloads from TechNet -- all the latest stuff

Personally I'd remove any 3rd party AV program

IMO for HOME (Not corporate) computers ALL AV programs are just as BAD or GOOD as each other - you might just as well stick with the official Ms built in one -- it works and the less stuff you have messing about with the Windows kernel - the better.

If you want to use 3rd party AV programs - that's your choice of course but things have moved on since W7 - Ms current built in AV works as well (or as bad- depending on your point of view) as any of the other normal choices for HOME use --including paid versions.

    Cheers

Torrents were full of them even before official release. It's nice to know there are some clean, legal ones.
